Fires of the Moon (Tanau’r Lloer)

The highly anticipated Welsh-language opera film Fires of the Moon (Tanau’r Lloer) is set to premiered at the 78th Edinburgh International Film Festival on August 18, 2026 and now comes to Chapter Cinema. Inspired by Caradog Prichard’s acclaimed novel Un Nos Ola Leuad, the film features a hauntingly beautiful score by celebrated Welsh composer Gareth Glyn.
Directed by Chris Forster and scripted by filmmaker Marc Evans, Fires of the Moon follows a writer on a train journey home, confronting memories that lead to his mother’s institutionalization. This genre-bending film explores grief, memory, mental illness, and the transformative power of artistic creation.

Filmed entirely in Wales during the 1950s period setting, the production utilized iconic locations including Dragon Studios, Great Point Seren Studios, Bethesda, Llangollen, and Blaenau Ffestiniog. The project is produced by Afanti, OPRA Cymru, and Severn Screen.
