Part of Stronger Than Love: ¡Too Much Mexican Melodrama!, a touring programme celebrating the emotionally explosive “women’s pictures” of Mexico’s Golden Age (1930s–1950s). Curated through a feminist lens, the series reframes melodrama as a radical space for female expression—on screen and behind the camera. From the charisma of stars like Miroslava and Ninón Sevilla to the groundbreaking direction of Adela Sequeyro and Matilde Landeta, and the innovative editing of Gloria Schoemann, these films showcase women’s artistry at the height of Mexico’s cinematic power.
