Resurrection (Chinese, Mandarin with English subtitles) imagines a future where humanity has traded the ability to dream for the promise of immortality. Only a scattered few refuse — the “deliriants,” outcasts who cling to the unruly beauty and terror of unconscious visions. When a stylish detective is sent to track one down, she must cross into his inner world, projecting herself into a vast, meticulously crafted 35mm dreamscape.
Across six chapters, the film drifts through shifting genres and eras, becoming a haunting reflection on 20th‑century China. Director Bi Gan (Long Day’s Journey Into Night), long fascinated by time, memory and mortality, pushes cinematic form to its limits. Resurrection is a bold, hypnotic work that reawakens our sense of what cinema can be.
