Wicked: Part 1
Wicked: Part I brings the untold story of the witches of Oz to the big screen in a lavish adaptation of the Broadway phenomenon.
Elphaba, shy and yet to discover her true power, and Glinda, popular and ambitious but still searching for her true heart, meet as students at Shiz University. Their unlikely friendship is tested after an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, setting them on diverging paths that will shape their destinies forever.
Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, the film adapts the first act of the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, itself inspired by Gregory Maguire’s novel and the classic Oz tales.
Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum in supporting roles, Wicked: Part I explores the origins of friendship, rivalry, and magic in the Land of Oz.
